The Bread Box Holiday Market - Our Story

Bread Box Holiday Market - Chalkboard Greeting

The Bread Box Market's hometown of Lexington, KY has a booming creative community full of hip artists and craftspeople, but back in 2013 there were few events to spotlight it, and nearly nothing in the way of fun holiday shows. Thus, the very first Bread Box Holiday Market was born! We hand-picked over a dozen local craftspeople, some of the very best Lexington had to offer, to create a show jam-packed with beautiful, thoughtfully-made goodies just in time for the 2013 holiday season.

Co-organizers Cricket Press offered a venue in the form of their cozy, shared space in the Bread Box Studio, right behind the famous West 6th Brewing company, and to make the most of the space we decided to personally curate every vendor at our show.

While all of the organizers were seasoned veterans of the craft fair circuit, none of us had any experience planning an event of our own, so 2013 was a whirlwind of figuring out all the details and putting together the best little indie handmade market we could. We relied on all of our experience to craft the best event possible, and our stunning lineup of artisans made the inaugural Bread Box Holiday Market an easy success.

After the success of our 2013 market, we absolutely had to keep the show going. Our experiment had paid off! Lexington was ready for a young, trendy show featuring skilled artisans. In 2014, we tried to pack in every single stunning vendor possible, and hosted a whopping 18 craftspeople in our tiny space.

The 2014 Bread Box Holiday Market was an even bigger success, boasting around 500 shoppers during our 8 hour event. WHOA.  To see the full artist line-up from our 2013 and 2014 Holiday Markets, visit our Past Vendors page here.

Nowadays, other Lexington event planners have discovered the fertile soil of the local creative garden, and there are new indie craft events and art markets popping up all the time. We say the more the merrier! Lexington's art community deserves to be showcased, and we are proud to be hosting our 3rd juried event in less than two weeks time. As our 2015 show draws near, we hope we can improve on our past successes and host the best Holiday Market Lexington has seen yet!

Join us on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Bread Box Studio from 10am - 6pm and see what we have in store! Aside from showcasing nearly 20 local makers, we will be featuring a warm festive atmosphere complete with holiday treats, music, and free swag bags for the first 50 customers. Don't miss it!
